Default Hard drive questions

I'm getting a used digi-001 today (hurrah)
Unfortunantly i'll need a new computer as well. I think I'm gonna get an 1800+XP on an Asus A7V333 and 512Mb of ram. But im finding it hard to deside on d HD solution. I'm on a limited budget so here goes:

What are the advantages of getting 2 seperate physical drives (as opposed to partitioning)?

Is it worth the extra money going for Raid?

I have an old 5gb drive lying around, could i use that as a system drive and just get a big fast one for audio?
