"Step phaser" effect on Eleven Rack?
Hi,
I'm trying to reproduce an effect called "step phaser" from an effect processor I used before (BOSS GX-700). I searched in many places but couldn't find information even about how would I get this effect. Obviously if it can work with the built-in effects that would be great :) Thanks! Julien |

Re: "Step phaser" effect on Eleven Rack?
Something like this?:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...kdLZtvpiLprWow Generally these type of effects are created by having some period control signal change an effect parameter on the fly. On a synthesizer, the is a periodic control signal generated by something called a LFO - Low Frequency Oscillator. They can be set to sine waves, square waves, and something called "Sample and Hold" - which sounds like a random sequence. You can also change parameters on effects with some kind of pattern generator like a MIDI arpegiator. Alas, the 11R doesn't have any LFOs or pattern generators. However, you could configure a synth to send it's LFO into the 11R as a MIDI CC. The 11R can change up to 4 amp/effect parameters at a time from the same MIDI CC. |

Re: "Step phaser" effect on Eleven Rack?
As said above, it would be helpful to know exactly what you mean by "Step Phase" because I have heard several different Step Phase effects, some are more like a ring modulator, while other employ pitch shifting, and others are just random noise, and most have several options for a combination of effects.
So what exactly are you referring to? The above video? or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FZprd9kQk4 or like the Hyper Phase from Digitech http://www.digitech.com/en-US/products/hyper-phase Click on DEMO and listen to the STEP example.

Re: "Step phaser" effect on Eleven Rack?
Thanks for the replies!
The effect I talk about is really similar to the Boss PH-3, not surprisingly since it was a Boss effect processor. I will take a look at that pedal next time I stop by the music store. It is indeed similar to what can be done with an arpegiator, and a bit "bubbly" if that's a word. With a variation in the pitch and separate notes going up and down. I will have access to this older module this week-end and will bring it with me so I can record it if it can help. Would it be possible to use the arpegiator of Xpand in ProTools to play around with the concept? I'm not sure which parameters I should try to vary? Or similarly, use the pedal on my MIDI foot controller? Thanks! Julien |
