Default Ukraine

Good morning:

I don't want to start a political discussion here, but a lot of the software for Avid (Pro Tools, Sibelius, Media Composer) is being developed in close cooperation with Global Logic, a company based in Ukraine.

Does anyone have any view on what the current situation in the Ukraine means for Global Logic and Avid? Are the programmers in Kiev all safe?

No one really knows what gets done where. If you have solid information that "a lot" is done in Ukraine, please share it.

All I've seen is the press releases (maybe the same thing you're referring to) but have no solid information.

If you look at Global Logic's other clients, it's databases and network hardware. Avid appears to be one of their smaller clients and Avid has broadcast products that require those areas of expertise. If you look at Avid's blogs, it certainly appears that plenty of digidesign engineers from a decade ago are still around. I'm highly skeptical of these claims that "everybody got laid off and development was outsourced to Global Logic." It frankly sounds like a smear campaign.

I agree Bob and the truth, whatever that may be, is the best counter.

Regardless of just how much coding is done for whatever by whoever in wherever, I share Peters concerns about their safety.
