Default Pspaudioware E27 review

Useless...

V1.0.1
Windows 7sp1
PTHD12.3.1
2048 buffer size @ 96KHz "Maximum possible in PT"
RME hdsp9632
1x stereo E27 "no x2"
32-cores at 2.6GHz.
Dual AMD Opteron 6276
24GB of ECC Ram.
20GB Disk Cache.

"Pro Tools ran out of CPU power. Try de-activating or removing Native plug-ins. (AAE -9173)"

#2. not able to see & manually type the +/-dB, is a step back from MasterQ.
#3. "No input or Ouput Gain." Plugin not intuitive, had to read the manual: PA11 is PreAmp Gain.
#4. Sound I could not say, because I could not hear it.
But bouncing does work at 1x
And could hear it...
The dual mono has problems with the channels.
Sound was interesting.

Disabling the Transformer & the Op-Amp, the E27 plugin Works.!
Problem is when both are active.
Needs more than 2.6Ghz per core.
Bouncing goes at 1.1x with Transformer & Op-Amps disabled.

1x plugin per core... Plugin CPU Load Does Not balance/spread between the other 30-cores.

#5. Clicking the x2 has a strange GUI bug, and PT explodes. "X2 is not over sampling like the MasterQ is actually double EQs, "6-band"
The GUI bug can be avoided by closing and opening the plugin by double clicking the insert in the mixer.

#6. Not able to free the knob from the "nine selectable frequencies." Is another step back.

WTF?...
The PSP Lexicon PSP42 works flawless.

Version 1.0.2 was released today:

BUG FIXES:
1. Settings were lost on session load (VST, RTAS, AAX). Fixed.
2. Moving plugin to different insert location loses settings (RTAS, AAX). Fixed.
3. Extremely high CPU drain on PC computers. Fixed.
4. Startup plugin settings were inconsistent with default (RTAS). Fixed.
5. PA11 and x2 controls were causing RTAS plugin to leak out of the PT window. Fixed.

CHANGES:
1. Algorithms optimized - less over 30% CPU usage than in previous versions.

KNOWN ISSUES:
1. We are trying to optimize PSP E27 even more.
2. AAX PC Windows doesn’t resize properly. Proper size is set after reopening plugin window.
3. PA11 knobs have different scroll handling than E27 knobs.
4. Automation in LINK mode sometimes doesn’t work properly (only one channel is automated).

v1.0.2 Big Improvement...

Now works! @ 2.6GHz 2048buffer 96HKHz Stereo, Transformer & Op-Amps emulation Active.

Bouncing Now at 1.3x = 30% improvement. Feels like 35% almost 40%.

BUT... Found another bug:
When I move any knob with the mouse...
The Keyboard/Space Bar gets hijacked... I have to click the transport to make SpaceBar/Play work again... Very annoying/time consuming feature/bug.

That does not happen for example with McDSP Channel G v6 I'm comparing.
Or any other plugin I own.

v1.0.3 is out, but... I cannot test it, Trial is over, and the New installer does not refresh the trial...

dumb if you ask me... considering it had so much issues/troubles.

I have a cloned HDD, pre-install but cloning back, just to test 1x plugin is too much effort... for only v0.0.1 change.

The title of the thread is wrong as this isn't a review.

There have been plenty of reviews on Gearslutz and the consensus is that this thing sounds phenomenal. I've had a hardware E27 for years, and have owned this plugin since it was first released, and although it had a few bugs upon initial release it's working better now.

As far as a "review" goes, it is, in fact, one of the best sounding eq plugins I've used. Very close to the hardware, which is excellent. The only rub is that it's CPU-intensive.

Avedis has been at the top of the game since their beginning.

This is easily one of the best sounding ITB Eqs ever made.

Sadly, on PT at least it seems to crash quite a bit (latest version), both normal and SE, and seemingly at random with an access violation but only if you add a handful of instances.

Well it does vary based on the project, possibly inc other plugs, but it's a bit buggy still and has resizing issues AND it also lacks proper page tables for ICON control (SE has some that work but normal has a number before each function so pads out the screens on custom fader mapping so can't read the function... and also doesn't reload custom maps it seems).

SO a great sounding eq, nice GUI, nice usability but buggy AF. A shame someone would put so much effort into making a great sound but not really implent AAX properly (are they just wrapping AAX with a self made wrapper or something dodgy?) and missing page tables, icon control and crashes/graphical errors. And a above the hijack of space bar/keys meaning you lose focus on PT and the plug-in steals it (as do many PSP plugs like fet pressor), altogether a pretty amateur effort on the logistics side which is out of step with how good they made them sound! weird!

From PSP:
Quote:
2. There was a crash while turning knobs in some special cases - fixed,
3. PSP E27 was resized properly in Reaper 4 (32/64 bit), but not in newest Reaper - fixed
Funny how the resize bug was carried across to PT in a later version. SMH. And there is sstill crashing when turning knobs. Means you can't deploy the plug in seriously in a slick/pro setup and know it's not going to kill your session. PSP really need to fix up the AAX version. I think when they moved to iLok it may just have made the bugs even worse, I don't think they are the best coders bugs wise so adding even more notorious baggage with iLok is just asking for trouble.

PSP seem to just give up on plugs once they are a year old or more. I really hope someone better prepared for support/stable programming like softube or someone else gets to have an authorized go at making the E27, it's a gorgeous eq! Avedis should pull official ties with it until/if they fix it up, and let someone else do it. Sadly.

I agree it sounds great, and also seems to be buggy in PT, so I rarely use it.
