Default PT Creative Collection on sample drive

I have a 3rd drive for sample libraries and I'm about to install PT 9.0.2 (full install). It doesn't give me the option to install just the PT CC on another drive except my OS which is what I'm installing PT on of course. Should I just install it on my OS drive then move it after? What is the correct way to do this? Or is there a way that I can separately install the creative collection on it's own.

Put the CC where it wants to install it. Moving it is bound to cause more problems than any good.

I see. I was under the impression that it's not ideal to stream samples from your OS drive, or even your audio drive...and that they should be placed on a 3rd drive (the content not the plug itself) for optimal performance.

For many plugins, this is true.

Some, however, just do not operate properly from a separate drive. The stock Pro Tools plugs are definitely in that category. Reason/Record prefers to be on the system drive as well. Most of the time, there isn't a problem running on the system drive, even with most other libraries.

The ones that really matter are the RAM intensive, large libraries like you will find in VIs like BFD2 or EWQL plugs. The CC is pretty small by comparison.

Yes. It is ideal to keep the system drive as lean and mean as possible. After installing Creative Collection, copy and paste the Creative Collection folder to your dedicated sample drive and delete the Creative Collection folder from the system drive. When you launch Pro Tools and open a session with Xpand!2, MiniGrand or Boom, these Virtual Instruments will ask to be manually pointed back to their new location.

yeah makes sense. I'm going to be using Xpand 2 a lot so I was just a bit worried I may get ever so slightly slowed down. But the CC is only 3-4 gb...so yeah, probably a dumb question to begin with. But thanks filosofem, I guess it still won't hurt to put them on a sample drive like you outlined.

OT: Installing PT 9.0.2 right now and this msg popped up

"The installer was unable to locate the required QuickTime components on this system. Pro Tools requires QucktTime to inclue movie files, MP3 files or MP4 (AAC) files in your sessions. Please visit the Apple Computer website, download the latest QuickTime and install it on this computer."

After I closed the box it said PT was installed succesfully.

So Quick Time is required for me to import any MP3 in PT? Really?

edit: I installed PT with my hardware (Mbox 2) not plugged in.

Quicktime has always been a requirement for Pro Tools installation.

Ah I see, in the past it's always been installed...this time running off a fresh reinstall though.

Can I just DL it off the apple site and proceed or is it necessary for me to re-install PT.

Yes you can. Just get the correct version(32 or 64 bit for your OS)

...and you should plug your Avid hardware in whilst installing Pro Tools.
