Default Pro Tools ran out of CPU power. AAE -9173

I have this issue with Pro Tools 12.1. I am using just 1 click track and 1 instrument track with Mini Grand on it. Can't record more than 7 bars and can't playback more than 7 bars when all stops and have the message: "Pro Tools ran out of CPU power. Try de-activating or removing Native plug-ins. (AAE -9173)"

Any idea?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)
OSX 10.10.4
2.3 GHz Intel Core i5

Maybe increase the buffers a little?

Hi Ian,

You have only 4GB of RAM.
PT 12 is a 64 bit application and as such can access heaps more than 4GB of RAM.
I cant say for sure if this is your issue but generally you will need an absolute minimum of 8GB and preferably 16GB or more of RAM.

Cheers
Lachlan

Hi - I had to increase RAM to 16GB. Everything was OK then. No warning about this by ARID though! Their phone number for help with support is pretty useless too.

I still can`t work out how to monitor in studio and with headphones simultaneously! Can`t find any help anywhere on Help Menu with ProTools12 or on ARID website.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I forgot to mention that when I had 16GB installed I had access to more fx and other things than previously on ProTools12.

My fast track solo unit just won`t allow me to monitor with headphones and studio speakers simultaneously. Never had a soundcard with this problem in the past.

Any ideas anybody?

Thanks

Tnx for the replies.

RAM problem...???... mmm... could be... but the System Requirements are:

Mac:

Intel® Mac with Mac OS X 10.8.5, 10.9.0 - 10.9.5 or 10.10.0 - 10.10.4
Intel® Core i5 processor
4GB RAM (8GB or more required for video playback)
Internet connection for installation
15GB disk space for installation
USB-port for iLok 2 authorization
USB-port, FireWire-port or Thunderbolt-port for CoreAudio-supported audio device
Supports 64-bit AAX plug-ins in Pro Tools

Today I tried to record twice with de System Usage window open and here are the results (see the attachments).

So, again, any idea...???

run the System Info... and watch if you have the thread 4 overload... low cpu overall and thread 4 suddenly spikes and throws the error.

Lots of people had that problem in 11, it went away completely (for me) in 12 and then returned in 12.1. I then completely reinstalled 12.1 and haven't had a problem since.

What is your "Playback Engine Buffer Size"? Try increasing it to 1024 samples.

Is there any spikes in the CPU? From the first picture it seems that you had one. If so you might have a plugin that is spiking it. Try taking all the plugins out of the plugins folder and then putting them back one at a time, until you may find the plugin that is causing you the spike. Also remember that the requirements are the minimum requirements and might not be enough on some system.
