Default Elastic Audio keeps crashing Pro Tools

I've been running PT 10 since it came out and it has been a pretty smooth ride. But suddenly in the last week almost every time I use Elastic Audio it crashes Pro Tools. I have tried switching out to a clone drive of my system that I made last Apr 1 when Elastic Audio was working just fine. I've repaired Disc Permissions. I have defragged the drive I'm working off of and tried working off of my backup drive to no avail.

I don't know what else to do at this point. Please tell me what I may be missing. Elastic Audio is important in my workflow. Would appreciate any and all input.

Thanks in advance

Mac Pro 2x3 Ghz Quad-Core Harpertown (yeah I know it's old)
OSX Lion 10.7.5
16GB RAM
Pro Tools 10.3.8
HD 5
Magma Expansion Chassis
5GB of RAM in Cache

Question Re: Elastic Audio keeps crashing Pro Tools

Could you please post the crashed thread data from one of these crashes?

Have you tried deleting your preferences and databases?

Ya know I haven't removed prefs and databases. The next time I get a crash I'll post. I removed Snapz Pro from the computer which seemed to be using some CPU power. My PCI bus was running at around 48% even when a session wasn't opend. I'm wondering if I kept hitting a wall. The session I was working on was about 181 voices as well.

Does it actually crash or just hang indefinitely? I've had a similar problem since updating to 10.

it hangs indefinitely. Complete Pro Tools crash. I then have to reboot even though it doesn't crash the computer. If I don't reboot the computer and then try to re-launch PT's it crashed the whole computer.

Yeah that's exactly what I get. You can read my other thread here if you like, not that it's terribly useful:

http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=343915

Haven't found anything which helps yet. I'm mostly rendering all my EA edits without listening to them these days, a horrendously risky business. Although obviously I playlist the unedited version first just in case!

Very interesting to hear your problem started recently and didn't happen from the beginning of PT10 like on my system. Is there anything you've changed recently?

Try switching from real time processing to rendered.

I had that exact same issue and other issues as well (plus some other seemingly unrelated ones).
Solution for me
Time Machine Backup of drive
Boot off another drive NOT recovery Partition
Reformat System Drive
Download from App Store new OS an install ( VERY IMPORTANT )
Restore from Time Machine system drive.

This was the only solution that worked fro me.

I've had it just as frequently in both processing modes, and using all algorithms including X-form.

Hmm. Well it's encouraging to hear an OS reinstall solved the problem for you, but if it makes any difference the Lion install I am using was a fresh install on a fresh hard drive not an upgrade over an existing OS. I have run the complete series of Tech Tool Pro hard drive tests on all my drives including surface scan and have found no errors.

Still hard drives are not exactly expensive at the moment so might give it a try. It will have to wait a few weeks tho, I'm far too busy to experiment just at the minute.

Today my colleague has been doing some EA edits on a laptop and it did exactly the same thing. He's got no peripherals attached aside from the ilok, and no 3rd party plugs, just standard AVID and AIR.

It's a MacBookPro 5,5, 2.26 Intel core 2 duo, 4GB RAM Pro Tools native 10.3.8, OSX 10.7.5. Fresh Lion install on a reformatted hard drive, updates via combos not software update. The only applications it was installed other than Pro Tools are the ilok licence manager and carbon copy cloner.

And just to recap, my main studio machine is MacPro 1,1, 2.66 Intel Dual Core Xeon, 9GB RAM, Pro Tools HD TDM OSX 10.7.5.

This is looking more and more like a bug to me.
