Default Re: New Hardware Exchange / Upgrade Prices?

One other thing, and we're still awaiting confirmation from our dealer in San Francisco, but the Avid page I saw said the DEADLINE for this upgrade path was March 18.

We were badly bitten by not making the PCIx to PCIe crossgrade, as dealers were not informed of it until AFTER the decision, so we're jumping on this one. For the majority of work we do on our 4-HD1 systems, going native on a fast MacPro will be absolutely fine.

Our HD4 system is another story, although it is PCIe.

I would speculate that the writing is on the wall for the current line of "Native" cards. With the introduction of light peak/Thunderbolt these native cards will become obsolete very quickly. So unless you get a great deal, I think it would be a waste of time upgrading.

From the prices I've seen, you can get more from your 003 by selling it out right, then buy native at full price and its still cheaper.

We've priced Dual Quad Mac Pros to replace our 7-year old G5s with PCIx cards (single core card) and are getting a GREAT price to trade in our core cards for native. For what we're doing, it's a major savings for four systems... almost $8000, in fact. I don't think 'Thunderbolt' is going to be a big deal for us.

Legacy is a 54% discount

Digi Naitive like 003, 002, 001 etc is only a 16% discount.

This is why its much cheaper to buy a Mix Core Card and do the upgrade.
