Default mixing board recomendations for surround

Hi there,

I have recently taken the jump from stereo and bought a Blue Sky System One 5.1 set.

I am doing post work for tv and film and am wondering if anyone has recomendations on small mixing boards which can drive a 5.1 monitoring set up?

I have a command 8 which controls a protools 002rack (which I mixing in) and currently have the 002 plugged directly into blueskys system one 5.1 speaker set (via its bass management module)

but I am now looking at a new mixer so that I can put it between the 002 and the 5.1 speakers to allow me monitor other sources such as a cd player and dvd player etc

but depending on price I might go for a mixer which is of good enough quality to insert into my editing and mixing audio chain instead of having a basic mixer just for monitoring the output of protools

besides the digidesign solutions I wonder what other people out there are using?

keeping some free space on my work surface is also a consideration so I might go for a rack option or at max a 24 channel strip mixer

any advice/opinions welcome....

I am having good luck with the Yamaha 01v96 for a similar workflow with Blue Sky's and HD2. Using the light pipe keeps things pretty clean and it is 5.1 compatible. It would also give you an additional 16 faders of controller overflow to assist the Command 8.

At work I use a O2R 96 V2 for mixing in surround, I kind like it. Also, it is now THX certified.
