Default HDX with Isis

This might be a no brainer to some of you but I've never worked off an Isis and would like to. I'm mixing for a television production company and have a new Avid 192 and an HDX card. Is there a card or another piece of hardware that my system needs to interface with in order to mix, record, transfer, store directly off the Isis? thanks.

need the Client App and a good network backbone

at one time Isis was recommended to be set up separately for video and audio but I don't know if that's still the case

I really hate the Isis system - it's an utter pain for audio. It's fussy about what video you can use, and keeps on randomly losing audio files. Useless. Other places I know have gone with the DDP system for audio. Even that though had issues running ProRes - has to be on local drives to run smoothly, which kinda misses the point. After tinkering with various network solutions, I now run local SSDs, which are mirrored to our network storage.

Is there any more detailed information you can give me as far as hardware requirements go? Do I need an additional Avid box or some sort of ethernet card to make it work?

I take it you have a Sync HD i/o as well for TV work. ISIS has been fairly bulletproof for me, it depends on who is admin/looking after on the system and if it's setup correctly for all the clients. I normally have audio on it's own workspace with allocated drives that only audio can use.
Mainly used for promos and shortform.

Thanks for the link. I don't have a Synch I/O. All mixing is fully in the box. The link only seems to speak about the software and no other hardware needed. Is it just an ethernet connection to the mac?

Yes. Just an ethernet connection. Your ISIS administrator will have the correct ISIS client software to install on your Mac Pro. If it's a PC, it may need a special ethernet card.

Where I work Isis works fine, with 4 PT HDX and 9 AVID MC´s as clients.

The MAC´s connect via 1gb ethernet either directly or via a simple 1 gb switcher, in case you need to share the connection.

You don´t need any extra hardware to run PT with Isis, neither a Sync HD I/O as this is only needed for machine control, TC overlay etc. or to clock your digital gear in case you don´t have another clock generator.

The way we work is that audio and video editing suites have diferent workspaces assigned on Isis with storage limits for each department, so if properly managed and provided the workspaces are mounted, you can work pretty well, even streaming video to protools from small video ref files that link to the original video files.

I strongly advise you to check all options with your retailer and assure that all the IT procedures on instalation and maintenance are carried. Provided the system is properly implemented, its business as usual, I can´t see the diference in performance by using local drives, at least where I work. Plus you get redundant backups as well

ISIS works well in its native habitat, that is an environment with multiple edit systems and a good IT manager. Makes sense in a high-volume quick turnaround setting. (and one where you can call someone else if you have an issue! As long as workspaces and permissions etc... are set up properly it is pretty solid)
