Default Neve 1272 mic pres

Has anyone heard of VINTECH refurbed Neve 1272 mic pres? Though they're not tube pres they are reasonably priced. I'm looking for an entry level pro mic pre such as these and I was wondering if anyone had the opportunity to try them.

Hey Dan - I bought a pair of the 1272 component Vintechs about 3 months ago & am very happy with them. They sound great for vocals, acoustic gtrs & & pretty much any thing else that I've run through them.

They made me appreciate my mics more! And all at a reasonable price - $1250 for 2 channels. They're made from new components that are the same as the vintage 1272's.

I'd love to check out their version of the 1073 w/ EQ - I heard they were excellent also.

Thanks for all the input. Now, does anyone have an opinion on how these things stack up against similarly priced new mic pres such as Joemeek, TL Audio, Peavey VMP2 etc?

they'll be great. but everythings different. joe meek has a unique sound thats different from neve and so on. basically if you by the 1272 you'll be buying a tried and tested great mic pre if you buy a joe meek you'll be buying a new sound of mic pre. better? worse? that's for those two darn things on the side of your head to decifer. i imagine if you deck your studio out with joe meek stuff you'd have quite an original sounding studio, if you go neve(vintech) well at least you know you're getting something good.
