Default Pro Tools Express hates my Win 7 DAW PC

Hi everyone, I'm using Pro Tools Express with a Duo Fast Track and latest driver on my laptop WIN 10 no problems at all, where I sketch out ideas, but when I installed everything on my main Win 7 64 bit PC, 12GB RAM damned if I can get it to run well.
Only by using maximum driver settings, virtual instruments make the right noise with maybe 750ms latency, otherwise I just eventually get a burst of static. VI's take an age to load and likewise to appear when you click on a tab.
PTE is running, and boots up, but that's about all you can say.
Recording audio is possible, again with extreme driver settings.
This is a pretty straightforward process with simple hardware and the right driver. Buggered if I can see what I'm missing on the WIN 7 PC that's causing trouble.
Studio One and Sonar run just fine. This is a rock-solid PC that's worked well for years. Just not with PTE. I've tried trashing preferences.
Any ideas what I can try next?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Don’t believe Win7 is supported anymore

The best performance I would guess would be at Win10 just because they are constantly working and tweaking the PT app to work well with Win10.

Win7 might work well with older PT releases...but for the latest and greatest you would be better off working with Win10.

Ahh... that makes sense. Damn, I didn't do the freebie upgrade to Win 10 at the time, because drivers and such weren't ready. But you're right, for all my software I should probably be thinking of switching to Win 10. Thanks!

It could also easily be a hardware incompatibility. The wrong chipset can be a total buzz-kill(Posting a Sandra report would reveal that)

Thanks... PT10 worked fine while I had an iLok license (I'm a writer and had a review copy for 12 months). I'll check out a Sandra Report. I was more hoping there might be a simple solution (beyond a Win 10 upgrade).

Cheers.

See the "Help Us Help" you thread at the top of the forum. I've also found Speccy from Piriform to do a nice job of giving specific information about a PC's hardware and a complete overview.
