What's the most stable Mac OS to run PT12?
Currently on PT10 running Mountain Lion 10.8.5, about to upgrade before a big session and need to know which OS is the most stable for ProTools 12.
I've heard that Sierra may still have bugs, was considering going one back to Capitan. What are you guys running? Anyone running Sierra smoothly? Does it depend on my plugins, too? Lots of UAD, waves, soundtoys & other basic stuff. No cracks, all legit. |

Re: What's the most stable Mac OS to run PT12?
Of course you're going to clone your working drive in case something goes wrong right?
In my experience, Sierra is WAYYYYYY better than El Cap and possibly even better than Yosemite. Now that I think about it, Sierra is better IMO. 12.7 on Sierra is running pretty darn well here. |

But yeah, the owner actually bought a brand new OWC 1tb ssd that we're pretty excited about. Should be a huge improvement over the old drive. And there's an extra slot in the tower so we can easily boot from the old drive if anything goes wrong. He wants a fresh install of the OS and PT to start from scratch. New year, new gear! |

Of course you're using only legit plugs.
We're not expecting otherwise in here I'm running UAD plugs along with plenty more. No problems with Sierra - better than Yosemite and ElCap. Running PT 12.7 And yes, clone your drive. Essential ! |

...if you take the time to do proper clean install instead of updating your operating system. And stay away from OS versions not blessed by Avid!

Nice. Yeah we've got a brand new solid state drive and planning on doing a fresh clean install of everything.

It just is.
Sometimes it's specifics (GUI lag for example) and at some point it becomes a feel thing. Sierra just feels better and runs smoother for me. |

Re: What's the most stable Mac OS to run PT12?
If you're going from PT 10 to PT 12 NO version of the plugins you have now will work as you will be going from 32 bit RTAS and AAX32 to only AAX64. All your third party plug-ins will have to be updated.

Yeah I plan on fresh installing all plugins. I'm pretty sure they're all compatible. UAD stuff says green light, Waves looks cool. It'll be tedious, but I think well worth it.

@Drew Mazurek - What version of Sierra are you running with PT 12.7? I'm assuming 10.12.1 but thought I'd ask.
