Default Problem with OMF in PT11???

Hi everyone

I'm currently trying to export a session from a film i'm helping to produce post production on. I'm trying to export as an OMF however when I do so it always exports the audio to a separate file. How do I make it an 'embedded' OMF so it is just one large omf file rather than a 'referenced' OMF?

thanks,

Phil

Why OMF?
Export it as AAF. Choose consolidate media than embedded audio.
Disselect video track.

Here is how to do it properly.

Avid Knowledge Base
How to export an AAF
How to export an AAF and the AAF export settings explained

Last Updated : July 30, 2013
Products Affected :

Fro Avid official site:

You can create an AAF from master clips or sequences. Select either the sequence or master clip in the bin. Once selected you can then right click and choose export, or pick export form the File menu.

First thing to do is either attach an external drive or create a folder to save the media and AAF to.
From the drop down next to export settings, set it to ‘Untitled.’ Then select options.

Select AAF from the Export As drop down menu:

Check the boxes for both audio and video unless you plan on only sending one or the other.

The check boxes in the right hand corner need to be checked with your expected export results.
The first two check boxes are self-explanatory, but make note of the ( ).

Use marks – Checking this box will export only the marked area of either the master clip or sequence, via the AAF file, but make note there are options below to make note of when selecting this option. (see export method: Consolidate Media)

Use Enabled Tracks – Use enabled tracks (make note there is also an option to include all video or all audio or both. So if you have A1-A8 in a timeline or part of a master clip and only have A1-A2 active when you select all audio it will check this setting and only give you the audio that is enabled.)

AAF Edit Protocol – Check this box if your file will be larger than 2GB in size. (Leaving this box checked is recommended.)

The first time you open the AAF dialogue box the Export method default is ‘Link to (Don’t Export) Media’. You will want to change this to one of the other options if you plan on delivering this aaf to an external site.

Copy All media VS. Consolidate Media VS. Video Mixdown

Copy All Media - Will copy the entire master clip, even if only a small percent is used in a seq.

Consolidate Media – Will only take what media is used with handles

Video Mixdown – Flattens all tracks

Each of these three options will create an “Avid MediaFiles” folder in the location you specify under media destinations.

Folder is easiest if you need to send smaller sized files. An external drive is suggested for larger file sizes.

Video / Data Details: This will allow you to render the media before the AAF export or to transcode the media to another codec.
If your video effects have already been rendered prior to the AAF export, do not check this box.
If you don’t plan on flipping the media to another codec, leave the “transcode video to” option unchecked.

Audio Details: If you have already rendered your audio effects before the AAF export. The below window is how you want your settings to look. Selecting any of the other items will generate new media and take longer to export.
The problem is there isn't any options to embed the audio for either AFF or OMF

Even when you chose first either: Copy All Media or Consolidate Media?
Also if your AAF file will be larger than 2 GB, than your option is to create a reference AAF file or to make several Embedded AAF by dividing your session in several AAF like AAF track 1-2, AAF track 3-8 e.t.c (in order not to get to the limit of 2 Gb)

Also when opening any OMFs or AFFs that have been exported using these setting: omf.jpg

and sending it to another person no audio is important when they try to add it to their session

As you can see above from the setting there is only an option to consolidate media from source

Enforce Avid Compatibility should be checked.

If you want embedded OMF, in Audio Media Options, choose Embedded rather than WAV.

I could have sworn this limit was removed a year ago. We still have it?
