Default Windows 10 and MBox Pro

I'm looking to upgrade from Windows 7 Protools 9, to Windows 10 and Protools 12.5. According to specs in the Knowledge Base this is workable with my FireWire MBox Pro Interface. What's the best avenue to either Dell, or HP to get a new Workstation configured to the right specs? What I'm finding so far is that Workstations are geared for high end graphics, which I don't need and I'm trying to keep the computer costs around $1K.

You can still upgrade Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro for free, without losing your files, instead of having to wipe out your device clean.

Hit the “Download tool now” button under “Create Windows 10 installation media” to get the MediaCreationTool1909 from this page:

If you go to Windows 7's
Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>System and see:

With an activated Win 7 Pro Product Key, the upgrade to Win 10 Pro is free!
Just pick the version of W10 that matches your W7: Home for Home and Pro/Ultimate for Pro.

Yes, those look like good advice, but my Win 7 computer is pretty glitchy, which is why I'm wanting a new Dell or HP. Also, it's been advised to run Protools on an independent computer if available and I'm wondering if it's reasonable to have alll my software on the same computer as long as I disable being online while running Protools? This is how I've been doing it, and it seems to work okay, just that I seem to need more memory and speed for Proools..

Check Avid's recommended HP Workstations, then look for a refurbed one, probably coming off lease, and add in yourself what might be missing.

Thanks for the reply, I've seen a few refurbished HP Z series Workstations that AVID says will work, though was hoping for something new. Are new HP Z4 Workstations past my $1K price range?

Never mind on that last question, it seems new HP Z4 Workstations are in the $2K+ range. So, is there a lesser Dell or HP Windows 10 computer in the $1K price range that will work with Protools 12.5? Sweetwater has one they recommend for $1400, but I'd need to upgrade the RAM for another couple hundred $, bringing it in under $2K. I was really hoping for a HP or Dell solution that I feel I could actually work on when needed as opposed to the specialized unit Sweetwater has.

FWIW, last year, I bought an HP z820 off eBay. It was a 12 core 3.5GHz, 64GB RAM, 500GB SSD, nVidia Quadro 600, and it was built like a tank. I added an optical drive(for Blueray/DVD and CD burning), a USB3 card(it only had 4 USB3 ports) and a USB>Optical audio interface(I needed optical SPDIF to listen to all non-PT audio). I ran Windows 10 Pro and its still in use today(I sold my interest and am semi-retired now). If I need a new PC but don't need Thunderbolt, I'll buy another in a heartbeat(but check Avid's compatibility info if you have more than a single HDN or HDX card to install). I ran HD/Native with 2x192 and 2x HD IO and tracked full bands in a commercial room in Nashville for several years with that rig

You can build your own system and get more bang for the buck too.

Make sure you choose high quality parts is the big thing. I'm working just fine on a Ryzen system.

The Scarlett range of interfaces work quite well if money is tight. I have a first gen 18i20 that I can't complain about.

HP Z4 Workstations are more expensive than $1K but you can look for a used one.

Hi. Welcome to the forum.
I just wanted to let you know that you're replying to an old thread, nearly three years since the last post, so it might not be of help to many.

Also, if you're replying to gjmiller a few posts up, he knows:
