audio playback stops when recording and playing back

WHen I am recording the computer chokes up and stops. I am running a macbook with 1g ram and I am using 7.3 protools. THis never happened when I was using protools 6.9.2 and a power book with less ram. Is there anyway to fix this problem or is it a problem with the program? Please help

Try changing your buffer setting.

I changed the buffer settings I done all the things that were suggested to free up cpu usage. The is so bad that If I touch the mouse during recording it pops up with an error message" unable to play audio usb hold off" or something like that.
