Default \'Cannot allocate disk space for recording\'

PTLE5.11/Win98SE.

Flawless for the last coupla years.

Audio drive 60GB, 40GB free. Regular defrags.

If i want to record a stereo track, create track and arm for record. Start recording but before anything happens, get the above message. Whats going on?

I can record in mono but some of the pads etc i use from Sampletank (on a second PC) have panning and movement within the stereo field which i want.

Any suggestions?

First I think you need 2 HD and use one of them exclusively for audio files. Now, if you have Norton SystemWorks try to defragment your hd with speeddisk (Norton utilities. It works for me.

You may know this, but do you have your session length set to a limited amount of time? If not, you can get that prompt you're getting. To set it, go to Setups/Operation, and set 'Open Ended record Allocation' to say, 10 minutes (or whatever your longest sessions usually last).
Beyond that, the old 'check your DMA' advice is all I have to suggest.

Thanks but i have this set with NO ALLOCATION i.e. to use whatever space is on the disc. I wonder if this is the problem?

Yes, it could well be. Setting a limit has stopped that problem in a few cases, including my own. Maybe try it... you can always reset it for longer later.
