Default Thank you UA!!

A lot of people complained about the wait, and I thought it only fitting to thank Universal Audio for finally releasing the Windows AAX Powered Plugins. In my experience, it's a VERY well-thought-out release, and everything WORKS, no hassles. It was indeed a long wait, and I'm glad to have them in my PT 11 rig. Only drawback? Now I want more....

Today I mixed a session 60+ tracks, both native and uad plugins in PT11.
Buffer set to... 64!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!! no errors, no hick ups, no weird stuff. Native CPU usage in PT showed 30-40% but I checked the actual system measurement and it said 15% I'm just waiting for Kush Clariphonic to go AAX and I'm good

I see Lexicon is now slowly but surely porting their reverbs over to AAX. That's the last one I need here, although they still work fine with Patchwork.
A QUAD Custom UAD-2 to sit alongside my SOLO is ridiculously tempting right now.

I was tempted into taking up the current Octo pci-e offer ... couldn't resist ... it comes with a $750 coupon to spend ... and I got a satelite quad custom too, so I'm exploring lots of extra UAD plugins at the moment ;-). I don't know how I ever managed with just my Solo/Laptop card.

I chose Ocean Way Studios, API Vision Channel and Lexicon 224 as my three Custom pack plugins.

I spent the $750 on the SSL bundle, SPL Transient Designer, EMT140 and Helios Type 69 ... which came to $1046 ... but they threw in another $199 coupon and I had April's $50 coupon so I only had to put $47 to it.

UAD then threw me another $50 coupon, so I got the Roland Dimension D for $99.

Now they've thrown May's $50 coupon at me ... yeah you guesses it, I had to spend it ... got the Little Labs Phase Alignment Tool for $49.

As an extra free gift for all that activity on my account, UAD gave me the Precision Enhancer Hz (not the kHz one) and the 610-B (but not the 610-A).

I already had the LA-2A, LA-3A and 1176 collections, plus the freebies that everyone gets, so my plugin collection is looking good ;-)

I think Little Labs Voice Of God will be next on my list, then the Roland Space Echo. I'll also get the EMT250 at some point soon. After that ... well I suppose at some point there will be an offer on the new Neve that is too good to miss and I can see myself getting the Vitaliser, Fatso and Cooper Time Cube at some point.

Thankfully the licence agreement allows the plugins bought for one 'system' to be used on two computers if one of them uses a solo/laptop.

The Octo sits in my mac pro, while the satelite flits between my mac pro and my laptop (which I already use the solo/laptop in) as needed.

Happy days, even if the coffers are empty!

You bought practically half their catalog, but no massive passive?

Vitalizer and FATSO are awesome... I wish there was a native version of the FATSO, but I suppose a combination of UBK-1 and Pusher come fairly close.

Yeah I know ;-)

I'm content UAD EQ wise with the SSL and API channel strips plus the Helios, They give me specific flavour.

For more precision EQ work I like to use the McDSP EQs and Noise filter, or Digi/Avid's single band or 7-band.

There is already a native version of the Fatso ..... so long as you have a spare U of rack space!

Default Thank you UA!!

Something about that LA-2A silver, has to be the best sounding (colour) compressor out there. (Not the legacy)

After learning a bit more about the company culture and their current modus operandi, I am really impressed with UA. Manufacturing and QA of their channel strips and LA-series are stateside. Even with the 7-series preamps and Apollo series being made overseas, they still do QA stateside.

Even though I have a fancy German-made interface, I still think that UA's stuff is killer. The Twin especially, that's a slick piece of gear.

The coolest thing about the twin and the Apollo I believe is the physical impedance change on the mic pre wow

Yep and I own the 6176 - support USA buy more gear
