Default Remix question, changing tempo?

I'm doing a remix of a song that is originally 96bpm and I'd like to bring it up to 120. Instead of just using little bits of the vocals I'd like to make a re-version as it were and use the full wav. file of the original vocal and align it to this new tempo....is there a way to do this without clipping the whole vocal file apart and then consolidating them back into one contigous file? I tried using the Time compression/expansion Audio suite effect but I keep getting a DAE error-7401.
I'll be using mostly new instrumentation but I was also wondering how to do this with one or two of the instrument audio files.

Sounds like this could be a job for "Elastic Time " in the new PT 7.4. I didn't test it until now, but you can do a search here or watch the videos on Digi's webpage.

I don't have 7.4. I'm using 6.4. But anyway, I figured out why the effect wasn't working. It's because I hadn't saved the audio files for this session....the effect was trying to work on the original files from the original session that I can't open...so my bad. But any way, back to the original question....is using this effect the best way to adapt audio files to a new tempo in a remix and if so, what setting work best for vocals?

If the song is at a fixed tempo, then you could just use TCE.

My work flow is as following:

I normally use beat detective on one a bar at a time.

I capture, analyse and seperate.
Then i move the bits around until they sound the way i like at the new tempo and then on to the next bar. I feel that this give me the best result. It takes a bit of time, but i like the result in the end.

7.4 would be, no joke, absolutely amazing for accomplishing this

forget TCE-ing everything

I'm serious

once you go PT 7.4, you can never go back

the time-stretching algorithms are the most amazing and clean that I've ever heard in my life

pitch n time is the best software plugin to do this...elastic audio is not bad...but pnt is much better and creates less artifacts....you can listen to my remixes on myspace.com/joesmoothmusic

i have to disagree

pitch n' time has always been the best....until now

but it can take a little bit of getting used to the best way to use EA first

as in, using it on tick-based tracks with current tempo information properly in place

use a real-time algorithm to adjust and then the XFORM to finalize with the best math possible.....

I've already made entire songs that are complicated both musically/instrumentally approx 50% longer with constantly variable new tempo changes without exhibiting a single audible artifact using EA.

I've never seen pitch n' time be able to accomplish that kind of insane time-stretching.

but alas, we are all entitled to our opinions
