Default Simple MIDI question.

I'm just simply trying to hook up my components via midi as follows:

Scenario 1:
Digi 002 Rack (Master) sending Midi Clock to Roland 1880, which in turn will send Midi Clock to my Akai MPC 2000.

or-

Scenario 2:
Having the Roland 1880 act as the Master, sending Midi Clock to my Digi 002, which will send Midi Clock to my Akai MPC 2000.

Connection between these three components did work a few months ago, the last time I've really worked w/ Pro Tools - i just couldn't remember how it was setup (what was the Master/Slave). What am I missing? I preferably want for Scenario number 1 to happen....if someone could list the steps, it would be appreciative.

Default Re: Simple MIDI question.

just curious....WHY are you using pro tools in conjunction with the MPC and the roland. you dont even need the pro tools no more in your production phase. all you have to do is set up and make your beats in the MPC and when your done THEN transfer them into protools to edit.

Default That\'s what I\'m doing -

That's exactly what I'm doing. I don't use Pro Tools in my production phase - only for mixing - so I'm trying to transfer my music tracks to a pre-existing pro tools vocal file done at another studio - that's why i need them to sync.

"Digi 002 Rack (Master) sending Midi Clock to Roland 1880, which in turn will send Midi Clock to my Akai MPC 2000.

Digi 002 Rack MIDI OUT> Roland 1880 MIDI IN.

**( You could use both midi outs on the Digi, one to the Roland and the other to the Akai and send MTC to both ports.)

Roland 1880 MIDI THRU> Akai MIDI IN

**youll need to send MTC from ProTools out to the MIDI out on the Digi Rack Out 1 or Out 2
depending which one you want to use.

** Set roland to external clock

*Set Akai to external clock

Youll also want to enable MMC as well in ProTools to control the Roland and Akai

Default Thanks for the replies, but

it didn't work.
How about this.
Roland 1880 (Master) feeding my MPC 2000 which controls my Digi 002 Rack- Using Midi Clock. Is this possible and if so, how do I set it up...what parameters within pro tools would I have to select?

Sometimes it's easier to work the 1880 as the master because of the transport controls - i haven't seen a scenario where the Digi 002 Rack acts as the slave - is it possible?
Thanks again.

Sorry bro. I may have screwed up the instructions. Ill take a look at this this evening and get back with you. I have my DIGI002 Rack running with my Roland VS2480cd with the Roland bieng the slave or master so I know it works. I need to look at the Roland that you have(manual).

Default Solution - finally....

Digi 002 Rack (Master)
Roland 1880 (Slave)

Within Pro Tools select
Windows - Show System Setup - pull down Time Code Settings - check MTC to Port - select Port

AND

Setups - Edit Midi Setup - draw that stupid line fr the Digi 002 Rack to the 1880.

Within the 1880
Go to the Sync Page (shift and 'Ext Sync')
Under Sync Source select EXT
Make sure MTC Type frames match that of Protools.

(I have my 1880 feeding my MPC, by selecting with 'Sync Generator', Midi Clock (or whatever you want to feed it) in the Sync Page
and arm my MPC to received Midi Clock.)

Push play on the Roland 1880 - then push play on Pro Tools.....wha la.
Whew! Now I can get some work done. I'm writing it down this time - or maybe refer back to what I just typed. Thanks for looking into anyway.
