Default Mbox Pro to noisy for post?

I just bought a MboxPro and the outputs are very noisy. I can ear something that sound like silence on a vinyl record. If I put a meter directly on the output I read -65 dBu (my old mBox 2 mini read around -96dBu).

Is the MboxPro that bad?

If I was doing music mix I would probably not notice it but for TV post the noise is always present and it will get worse when I install the 5.1 speakers.

Hi Jean-Charles,

I've been using the Mbox Pro at my home setup and haven't found the outputs too noisy. Only thing is, they are at consumer line level, as compared to any of the HD I/O systems.

I have cut a lot of stuff with it and taken it to a mix and haven't had much of an issue.

Does the constant noise coming out of the Mbox Pro bother you?

I haven't noticed to be honest. Are you referring some sort of hiss? Could it be a specific issue with your device? (Especially as you say your mbox mini was much quieter?).

Have you tried it on standalone mode, without a firewire cable attached to it? Does it sound the same?

Just checked my device again and it hardly makes a sound.

I'm having the same issue. I'm using M-Audio Bx8a's (don't hang me). I replaced my cables with mogami xlr to trs. So that can't be the issue. My old mbox pro 2 doesn't have the same issue. I noticed the output is a little hotter on this mbox pro like you said. The strange thing is I've installed and uninstalled the drivers, restarted my computer, and gotten inconsistent results. Sometimes turning up the master volume on the mbox pro increases the hiss and sometimes it doesn't. I was also getting the same issue with my inputs. It showed up in my audio when I recorded on a mic but not on my headphone outs. It is very vinyl-esque too. It's not a clean white noise. It's subtly crackly. I'm going into Guitar Center tomorrow to show them the issue and hopefully get it exchanged (Because lord knows they're notorious for not being able to fix or identify actual causes of issues). I will let you know if the new one does the same thing. If it does not, then it could possibly just be our units. Although I have seen a couple other threads with the same topic.
