Selling my PT rig. . .

I have heard that I cannot sell my PT rig and transfer my hardware and licenses to someone else. Is this true? I would think certainly as an original owner of this gear, and having paid about 30k for my system that I should be entitled to sell to whomever I choose. Can someone please chime in here?

I have an HD3 based system and PT 8.1.

Pro Tools HD 7 and 8 licenses are transferable from one iLok account to another account via the iLok License Manager at www.iLok.com.
(If you install the iLok License Manager, and do a search on your iLok account for Pro Tools, when you double click on that license, the details will show yes or no next to "Allow Transfer?")

You would do that for a flat fee from iLok.com for a single license, or a higher flat fee for multiple licenses (if you were to also transfer plug-in licenses, for instance).

Between that process and a transfer of ownership form for the hardware, you should be OK.

Pro Tools HD 9 and higher licenses are not transferable via iLok.com. Those are handled by Avid CS on a case-by-case basis when sold with a Pro Tools HD system.
