Severe bug in 12.8 with Kontakt

When freezing or offline bouncing a session with Kontakt it is making the audio from Kontakt late - Totally useless when running drum samples. This is 100% a new issue in 12.8 as I have now downgraded again to 12.7.1 and it is instantly in time again!

4 months to put together a "bug fix" update that delivers a worse bug than the previous version. Well done Avid... That takes some doing. Thankfully with our annual plans we get regular updates now though don't we?

What specific version of Kontakt do you have? Latest is K5.6.8 I believe.

First thing I did was ran Native Access to make sure I was up to date and I already was. Binned prefs etc, tested in new sessions, opened old sessions I knew were bounced perfectly and re-bounced those under 12.8 and no matter what I tried my drum samples from Kontakt would be late.

This is ONLY when either freezing or offline bouncing as well. During real time playback everything is perfectly in time and delay compensated - As it has been up till now.

After a manual uninstall of 12.8 and reinstalling 12.7.1 I went back and tested the exact same sessions, with offline bounce and track freeze and it all works as it should do again.

So having waited 4 months for a "bug fix" update all Avid have delivered is something totally unusable with worse bugs than before. Plus they still have not fixed the bug that came in with 12.5.2 which quantises audio out of time when pressing "command 0". Total waste of my morning trouble shooting this mess up.

I just had a quick check on my rig (as this worried me!)

I'm on Kontakt 5.5.1451 which isn't the latest version...

Created a MIDI track with Kontakt drums, Quantized it. Committed it and it's spot on the grid.

However, when I froze it the notes are 6ms late... Is this what you were seeing?

Yes it was a noticeable lag (like a drummer playing flams on the snare) when using track freeze and also when doing an offline bounce of the entire mix.

Interesting to hear that 'commit' keeps it correctly in time... Although I have never used the commit feature once to be honest, and at the end of the day I should not have to look for workarounds because something has been screwed up in the latest version.

Both freeze, commit and bounce are bang on here, (12.8HD/OSX 10.10.5/Kontakt 5.6.6.) Everything is sample accurate and nulls. This is with offline processing and delay compensation on.

Mine is bang on again as well now I am back down to 12.7.1! Interesting to hear that you are having no issues on HD. I am on just "|Software" macOS 10.12.5 but I am convinced this is completely a Pro Tools issue as it only started with 12.8. After all the normal system fixes and checks with no luck, downgrading immediately resolved the issue.

i have K5.5.2 here .. i never updated past this as it is the different look and you cannot go back from there ... and we cannot open Newer Kontakt files (a drag right !!!)

i will do some tests today with K5.5.2, PT12.8, 10.12.5 .. i have every version of PT installed .. so 12.7.1.733 is Spot ON and 12.8 that was just released is off with K5 latest build ..

right now it sounds like a Kontakt issue but lets see what happens .. please standby ..

after testing .. 12.8 / 10.12.5 / K5.5.2 .. Commit, Offline Bounce and Freeze are All Spot on ... no phasing when playing and all 3 tracks together, and waveforms line up to the sample ..

i think we need to look at Kontakt for this issue ..
