PTHD 10 to 11 upgrade path?
Hi,
I have a Pro Tools 10HD license that was transferred to my iLok a while ago. Will I be able to upgrade this to Pro Tools 11HD and if so what would be the procedure and price? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Retrofreak |

Re: PT10HD to PT11 upgrade path?
I suspect sour grapes here^^^. If you HAVE an HD asset on your iLok, I see no reason why you can't upgrade that to the combo asset of 10&11 for the posted upgrade price for HD(you are upgrading software only). The only way this would NOT be possible is if Avid tied HD software to hardware, and since HD software now(since 9) works with most any hardware, I suspect you will be able to upgrade when the time comes. Remember though, its months away, and you probably don't want to jump on it immediately for 2 very good reasons; 1-always give it a month or two for bugs to be found and fixed, and 2-NONE of your current RTAS plugins are going to work with 11(give time for the plugin companies to move to AAX). One good note, it appears that we will be able to have PT10 AND PT11 installed on the same computer, so you should be able to, say, track in 11, but mix in 10(until all your plugins have been updated).

Re: PT10HD to PT11 upgrade path?
There was a thread where some people who had gotten HD 9 or HD 10 licenses without hardware were able to upgrade to HD 11 without a problem.
You might go through your dealer to be safe. |

Re: PTHD 10 to 11 upgrade path?
So.. going from HD 8.1.1 to HD11 is only worth if you buy any HDX gear, right?
If we buy an HD IO, does PT HD 11 come "for free"? Lots of people shall be moving to 10.3.x and staying there for a long time.

Re: PTHD 10 to 11 upgrade path?
No because you're only buying an interface. You would have to buy either an HDX or HD Native bundle (card and interface) now, which would get you PT10 and the 'free' upgrade to PT11.

Re: PTHD 10 to 11 upgrade path?
Alecio,
The main thing is that HD11 will not work with your TDM system, so you would pretty much have to buy new hardware anyway. Unless you plan on going purely native and using HD11 with a 3rd party interface. |

Re: PTHD 10 to 11 upgrade path?
I have PTHD 10 running on an HD2 TDM system with HD Omni i/o. Going to HDN seems like the sensible way for me to continue using the Omni with HD 11. But as far as I know, the only way to get the HD Native card is bundled with (another) HD license because PT upgrades are always just about software, with the exception of hardware trade ups like they had when 10 came out. I suppose at some point they might offer a trade up for TDM users to HDN 11... Any thoughts on that?
Another thing I wonder about is whether the HDN card can co-reside with TDM cards on the same system. If I did get the HDN card I'd want to be able to switch between HDN 11 and HD 10 TDM. Has anyone tried this on a system running HD 10? Allan

Re: PTHD 10 to 11 upgrade path?
at01Music,
As far as tradein specials, Avid renews or changes these every quarter. So the next time we might see something would be the beginning of July. At this point, it would really make sense for them to offer a deal to TDM users to HD Native. Apart from that, the only thing I could think of since you already have an Omni, is to buy the HD Native bundle and sell the new Omni that comes with it, and keep the card and software license (which would be for HD11/HD10). |
