Upgrading from 10 to 12 on New MacBook
Hi All
When I first purchased Protools in 2011, I came in on version 9, then got the free upgrade to 10. I currently am running Protools 10.2.0 on a 15" 2011 MacBook Pro (OS 10.7.5). My MacBook is dying so I need to replace it. I just purchased a new MacBook Pro 15" 2016 model due to the ports. OS is 10.12.6. I will be purchasing the reinstatement plan for $299 so I can upgrade my Protools to version 12. My question is: How do I install PT12 on my new MacBook? Do I have to first install my original installation CD's (one CD is Protools 9 installer, the second CD is the drivers, and the third is audio loops), THEN purchase the reinstatement plan to get to PT12? Or Does the reinstatement plan itself cover a complete new installation on a new MacBook? Thanks very much, Karen |

The software licensing, old license surrender, license upgrade is all handled via iLok, it has nothing to do with any software install on a computer. You basically download and run the Pro Tools 12 installer. You do not do anything with Pro Tools 10 install. But (as always) you need to carefully read and follow the Pro Tools 12 installation guide.
The thing you really need to worry about is making sure all the RTAS and AAX-32 plugins you use are available in AAX-64 for Pro Tools 12 and you have all the installers you need. Everything else is following the iLok license surrender instructions you will get with the purchase. Never ever use macOS system migration manager to move applications, plugins or drivers. (If you have, then stop and start over and do a clean MacOS install. You should reinstall everything from installers. Migrating user accounts, documents and sessions is OK to use the system migration manager for. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Thank you, Darryl.
I've never used OS system migration manager and wouldn't for this issue. |

Great. I just thought about warning about migration manager as somebody I know just shot themselves in the foot with upgrading to a MBP. You get away with it sometime.... they did not.
