Default Nyc Compression Aux in Stereo or Mono

if most of the source tracks im sending to the NY compression send are mono BUT are panned to different locations - would I want my NYcomp auxiliary track hosting the compressor to be a mono aux track or a stereo aux track? Can a mono ny compression send compress a highhat thats panned all the way left? If that makes sense.

It makes sense to me to have it mono since the purpose of the send is to put the source up front. But then i wonder if the send will have any effect on the stereo material?

If I understand correctly, you are bussing tracks to an aux with a compressor on it?
Like if it were a time based effect?
The problem doing that is, any time you bring another bussed audio channel to the compressor, you will change the action of the compressor.
You could conceivably pan things to the left and right and put the compressor into into dual mono, but you would still change what the comp does every time you bring in another buss of audio.
Compressors by and large like to be inserted on a track or on an aux to tame multiple tracks. Not in a send to aux situation. Although, there are no rules....it just seems like making things more difficult on yourself.

Hope I didn't misunderstand your post.

When I do bus compression on drums, I send to a stereo AUX track(which means a stereo send via 2 buses). That maintains the stereo panning of the tracks that are feeding the bus(assuming the send pans match the track pans)

I also make it a point to use compressors with a "wet/dry" mix knob when going for this type of sound to avoid any delay discrepancies in the host program (and to avoid needing parallel auxes.)

This post got me thinking and maybe now I wont use a stereo aux send for NYcompression. Maybe its about time i start using the old dry/wet knob instead, or a duplicate track.

This more so answered my original question. So you can send a mono source to a stereo aux and still have the effect return mono instead of returning stereo? Sorry if that makes no sense, it does in my head haha.
