Pro Tools LE 7 (disc), 7.3 (download) Will Not Install

I am using an Mbox 2.

Bought a new music PC, and am having problems installing Pro Tools.

When I try to install from either the disc or the downloaded 7.3 version, the install does not complete (it freezes just before it ought to complete).

I click on the PT icon and nothing happens.

When I right-click on the PT icon, and select 'run as', I get the following 2 messages...

1) The software could not find the required user interface DLL. Please reinstall the sofware and try again (which I have tried, but to no avail. I have tried using the PT1.2 nuker too).

2) The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Please, please, please help. I want buy the 7.4 and consequently 8 upgrade, but while I am having these problems I am just not going to take the risk.

Your motherboard has built in graphics. That's one of the compatibility no-no's.

Other ASrock models are also known to "not play nice" with Pro Tools.

That computer may work for other music applications, and while I understand that you "bought a new music PC", that is definitely not one that would be (or would have been, had you asked before hand) recommended for Pro Tools use.

It may be possible to troubleshoot your issue further, and get Pro Tools working on that machine, but quite honestly I would recommend a different computer for running Pro Tools.

I have been running Pro Tools on the PC for a number of weeks, perhaps even two months.

Completely randomly last week it just failed to boot up citing this missing DLL file, and recommending reinstalling the software.

Since then I have been chasing my tail.

If all I need is this missing DLL file, is it not possible to isolate what that file is, and replace it?

I wonder if the missing dll file is on your Windows install disc(if you have one). Do you have System Restore enabled? If yes, try rolling back to a checkpoint before the trouble started.

Sorted.

After much arsing about it turns out the problem with the DLL file was being caused by there being a concotion of software belonging to both the 7 and 7.3 versions in the registry. They were not deleting via add/remove programs, so I went into regedit on 'run' and deleted them from there. Then nuked Pro Tools, reinstalled from the disc (which this time completed), and there you are.

No problems all night, and I can get back to experimenting with deep house.

I shan't risk reinstalling the 7.3 version again. Toooooo much hassle.

Im having the exact same problem, and this has given me abit more knowledge but im a little unsure what your talking about when you say 'so I went into regedit on 'run' and deleted them from there. Then nuked Pro Tools'

please would you be able to let me know how you fully uninstalled and was able to make it run, in fairly simple language i can follow :)
