Default ProTools and servers

I want to set up ProTools 24 on a G4 Server with an 888 i/o or something and use that for all in and out hooked up to my Mackie D8B. I then want to add inexpensive workstations like iMacs with only the software that could access the files through 100 baseT ethernet and edit all the files from the server instead of copying files and stuff. Does anyone know if this will work? I could try to go with a faster ethernet if possible. Maybe even an AirPort would work (but that is slower).
