Default How long til Digi will no longer support G5?

Will Digi have to have 2 versions (1 for Intel, and 1 for G5) and, if so, How long with they DO this?

You guys must be very paraniod. This year Apple saw a 30% increase in sales , attritibuted to G-5 sales and I pods. Digi has and will alwasys support Mac's. Sure new computers will come on the market but not eveyone buys the lastest versions, ie,.. checkout the DAC and see all the Mirror G-4 duels still being used. Everyone is really over the top here. My G-5 Duel vr 2 has never run over 50 % CPU useage on any session and that's with every software synth I have running, and over 160 tracks running with all plug in's maxed. I do have 4.5 ram but still My H3 acell has only once been maxed out and that was because I could. So a faster chip set is only going to speed up my CPU usage and then maybe it will run at 25% usage instead of 49%. Big Deal. I usually upgrade computers everyother version, about every three years, and still have use for my Quicksilver 733. Archieving, CD-R , DDS 4, AIT DVD-r etc...I know new chipsets from intel, great, maybe a duel 4 will come out but guys, chill out! Mac's are here to stay, so is Dig and support for it. if you are concern buy a PC , Digi supports that too and it runs on intel too,, WOW Digi already supports an intel chipset!! Sorry for the vent but come on!!

All future Mac apps will have universal builds.. meaning the executables will be twice as large... (and so will the downloads) -- the executable will include 2 sets of code.. a PPC and x86 build.. depending on the host system it will execute the correct code segment.

in the keynote, the authors of Mathmatica state they only had to change 20 lines of codes. are you sure there will have to be exact duplicates of everything? i would think the xcode platform would just create 2 separate DLLs and the app would be the same.

The machine instructions for PPC and x86 are different.. the bundle will include both sets of code.. resources which are common like icons, strings, etc can be the same.. so the executable will be twice the size.

You can download XCode 2.1 and compile a Cocoa app yourself and test this.
