And for plugin automation / editing flip plugin mode ?
Everything as it should ?

How’s the scribble strips going with only 4 characters ?

Plugin editing is not working. It is coming in a future release. Apparently they were under some pressure to release something so there will be updates to the initial release.
You have to be creative naming tracks with a four character scribble strip.
I have a separate system drive to boot from for testing but for real work I'm still running a PT10HD system. Pro Control is a major part of the way I work especially when it comes to plugins.

The HUI protocol allows plugin automation and editing, but it has not been implemented yet. The main focus of development these days seems to be ironing out problems with low-level Ethernet communication on Windows.

About the 4 character scribble strips: I'm using ProControl since the early days with 8 characters scribble strips and only having 4 characters is at the edge of being a showstopper for me. The original 8 characters were already very limited because I have the habit of using long track names and they tended to end up more or less as gibberish anyway. So only having 4 characters is more or less like hell for me. But of course it does not need to be a showstopper at all if you choose your track names wisely.

Yeah I hear you about the scribble strips and the 4 characters limit.

It’s something I have difficulties with at the moment having worked with every Digidesign hardware since Sound Tools and early Protools III back in the 90s. I’m also quite used with the 8 characters of the ProControl and also plug-in automation and editing using flip mode.

I’m running a 24 faders ProControl along with the edit pack right in the center.

Edit pack has some uses for me also and currently not supported with V-Control.

I’m also trying to sell my HD5 Accel rig which at this time doesn’t show much interest and am also wondering if I’m going on the HDX ship or not.

System is incredibly powerful and stable here for my needs in the main studio.

Only reason why I would jump to HDX is the 64bit compatibility of Protools Ultimate with several VI’s such as Kontakt and Superior 3.0.

But at the same time there is this little voice that tells me this..

Why don’t you buy a nice MacBook Pro running the latest Protools 2018 with an approved audio/midi interface and then sync this rig to your main HD rig. Creating a dedicated laptop for VI’s with plenty of power freeing the main HD rig for recording / mixing and mastering.

The more I think about it the more this is going to happen.

I was in the same situation and I jumped ship to a HDX3 rig. I couldn't be happier, I was stuck to my 48 channel ProControl and Pro Tools 10HD for much too long

How about Vienna Ensemble to host your VIs?

I heard about VEP but how does it work exactly and how does it integrates let’s say I have the following system:

1) MacPro with/ PT HD 5 Accel 10.3.10 rig on 10.8.5
2) MacBookPro / running 10.12

One Ethernet link between the two systems? That’s it ?

How does the software operates on the MacBook Pro and inside Protools to receive audio ?

V control pro from Neyrinck able the ProControl (and Control 24) to work fine for most of its function with PR 11/12/ultimate.
Tested here and great result. Couldn't be more happy!
Definitely a better option than S3 and you can also add the dock at the ProControl!
