Default Motu 2408 mk2/MBox Mini 3g compatibility

I've got 2nd to 3rd generation used versions of these and corresponding lack of documentation for both. I'm trying to get them to cooperate via Cubase 4 on a machine running Windows XP. Using the S/PDIF hookups I can get them to communicate with each other and show up in the the devices available to me.

I'm running into two problems:

1: obviously with the Mbox/S/PDIF connection I can grab 2 analog tracks from my MOTU but that is opposite of what I'm trying to accomplish.

2: I can get the MOTU to grab the 'stereo' i.e. the 2 tracks I want from the Mbox into digital channel 3 under S/PDIF but can't seem to get them to talk to each other without a ton of digital jitter.

This is by no means life threatening and also a serious blast from the past, but if anyone has experience dealing with getting these guys work together that would be awesome.

You've listed the Mbox Mini in the title and you're talking about using S/PDIF, but the Mbox Mini does not have S/PDIF jacks so I'm confused.

If you're actually referring to the Mbox (not mini) then don't forget that the receiving device needs to be clock synced to the sending device when passing digital. If going from the Mbox to the 2408, then the clock source for the 2408 needs to be set to S/PDIF. Also, you need to be sure that the 2408 is always set to the same clock rate as the Mbox, otherwise any files created with the 2408 set as the audio device will have the wrong rate stamped in the header.
