The chart used to have wording "128/64/32(mono or stereo)" but they decided to clean it by placing that ambiguous "voices/tracks" to this current design.
It's so bleeping confusing the way it is now - they didn't clean it up enough. As clear as mud.

I agree. They should clearly mention that voices are only count on Ultimate which has greater-than-stereo tracks available. That would make people understand that the numbers on Standard and First mean available tracks.

Right. The inclusion of "Voices" in Vanilla is a bit curious.

"What is a voice?

A voice is a single audio stream that roughly equates to one mono audio track. A mono audio track will use one available voice. A stereo track will use two available voices. The voice limit is Pro Tools' capacity to play back a multitude of simultaneous voices. The higher the voice limit, the more tracks you can play back in Pro Tools to work on bigger, more demanding sessions."

But.
It's stated in the 2020.9 manual that 128 tracks is mono OR stereo so we have to assume its a bug, pretty fat Friday bug. Congrats AVID!

"Pro Tools Software:
- Up to a totalof 128 mono or stereo audio tracks per session:
- Playback of up to 128 tracks, or a combination of playing back and recording up to 128 tracks, mono or stereo, at 44.1 kHz and
48 kHz"

Yea, you would think beta team would have catched this.. but beta team mostly uses full feature software and this only affects standard features. So this kind of fluke is humanly possible.

It's almost like if you significantly reduce operating expenses, the quality suffers, isn't it? Weird.

Yea, I updated PT to 2020.9 (standard). Upon learning the news of the reduced track count, I uninstalled 2020.9 and reinstalled 2020.5. Now it won't run. I get this error:
