Default Miking techniques for snare and cowbell

So as I have told myself I am getting away from midi drums.....and recording the old sticks and skins ----- but

So how do I keep my cowbell bleed out of my snare track?

Place the cowbell further away from the snare and point the snare mic away from the cowbell, perhaps?

Also, after the take, clean the cowbell track so it only has audio when its been hit...

I often have a similar issue with snare and hat(can't afford a good figure 8 condenser for the hat yet). How about overdubbing the cowbell? Maybe even track it before the rest of the kit(I GOTTA have more cowbell). Actually, my favorite setup was a hybrid kit. Roland mesh triggers for toms and bass drum(and cowbell) with a real snare, hat and cymbals Since my biggest client wanted an acoustic kit, I spend a lot more time cleaning tom tracks(but I must admit, the Sleishman "Bop kit" I have on loan is amazing

I use trigger 2 since a few months ago and I say it's a charm indeed.

But as you can imagine the bleed off the cow bell is crazy....

I'm sure I can position the mic's a little bit better next time but I was thinking if anyone one else had any ideas.

I had thought of a midi trigger for the cowbell b/c most of the kit sounds great, especially after it's been triggered.......

Don't simply rely on Trigger to do all of the transient delineation between the snare and whatever bleed is also in the snare mic. Using a program such as Massey DRT to fine tune the actual transient detection points by looking at each one of them in close up view will get you far better results. The complete method for this has been outlined in the thread just below this one.

Yeah I also found out it was a wood block not a cowbell - sorry I am not a drummer (except when mixing)

So. What has that got to do with the problem at hand?

Bleed is severe - but I believe the techniques used to resolve the bleed with the cowbell are the same with the wood block
