ADVC100 problems...
Can't seem to get a new ADVC100 to work with ProTools. When I select "Play DV Movie Out FireWire Port" I get a "ProTools could not find a DV decoder connected via FireWire" message. The ADVC100 is turned on, and plugged in to the computer via the 6 pin plug on the rear of the box.
What could I be missing? There aren't any drivers needed, are there? By any chance, does outputting QT via FireWire require QuickTime Pro? I can make the box output the video color bars by holding down the mode switch button for three seconds, so at least that works. Lee Blaske |

Re: ADVC100 problems...
Make sure the Analog/Digital switch is set to Digital for playback out the FW port.

Re: ADVC100 problems...
Yep. It's set to digital. I'm beginning to think that this particular unit is simply defective.

Re: ADVC100 problems...
Just out of curiosity for those of you with ADVC-100's, does the System Profiler see and identify the device? When I look at my system profile, it shows something connected, but doesn't identify it as an ADVC-100. It just says "FireWire (SLOT-1)."

Re: ADVC100 problems...
Lee,
Are you running it under OS 9 or OS X? Do you have any other firewire devices connected and powered on? Under OS 9, the ADVC 100 does not play well with other firewire devices; it wants the whole playground for itself. If something else comes along, often it's "my bus, my ball, I'm going home." I just did an "About This MAC" under OS X, and under Devices and Volumes it shows "Firewire {}". Clicking the little triangle to open it up, it shows Vendor: Canopus, Device: ADVC 100. HTH Ray |

Re: ADVC100 problems...
Strangely enough we've had the same problems.
If we power down all digi hardware and the mac, powerup the ADVC100 first, recycle digi then mac, the ADVC100 comes up.We're running osx on dp867 |

Re: ADVC100 problems...
Weird.
I'm using it under OSX, and I've tried it on two computers - my PT rig, and a QS 733 with no other Firewire devices attached. I can't identify the vendor on either. Lee Blaske |

Re: ADVC100 problems...
Assuming OS 9
I had a similar problem with certain firewire drives connected to my system at the same time. The enclosure in question had an oxford 911 chipset, but it also had USB2 capability. When I switched to an enclosure that was strictly 911 the problem went away. You can easily check if this is the problem by disconnecting all firewire drives and seeing if your ADVC-100 suddenly starts working properly. Also - Make sure you run an older version of Firewire Enabler/Support extensions than 2.8.7. I am running 2.8.4. I also run Quicktime 5.05 - there were issues with 6.

Re: ADVC100 problems...
Hi Lee.
I seem to remember a bad batch of ADVC100's that required a firmware upgrade or something to work under OSX. You might contact them.... We've got 3 of 'em and they all work fine for us. Best, jf |
