0dBFS - really?

It is not arbitrary or incidental that "turning it up no matter what" coincides with another rise in generational hearing loss.

I'm late 30s... The generation above mine has more hearing loss. Statistics show that the younger generation also will.

I like to plug my ears in the street when sirens whiz by. Some people have a curious look and are yelling very loudly to be heard. Even walking passed the dance club, it sounds too loud for my health.

Mixing and listening as a career, I have another approach than "turn it up to hear it better." Like I said my interest is in a whole generation's healthy hearing. 0dbFS is totally meaningless except for staying away. You can have louder sound at -10 dbFS than at 0 dbFS, of course you know peak RMS loudness stuff.

Theoretically, headroom is great, no worries, be creative, be healthy///

The problem that's more ridiculous is this:

people mixing RMS close as possible to 0 dbFS

manufacturers turning down their device speakers for health standards

people getting used to listening to all their mobile devices at the top 1-3 volume notches.

At home for work, I have big speakers, I have volume, and I don't need to push them. But my phone and earbuds, LOL
