Default Time Slots Q?

For some strange reason I'm getting this "I don't have enough time slots to create a output for trk whatever". What the heck is going on. I have four Mix Cards and 1.5gig ram. Is'nt that enough? Please, I'm in the middle of a mix and can't go any further. ASAP

On very large sessions - lots of tracks, auxes and plugins, you can max out the 256 allowed time slots that TDM can handle for any instant of time. Check your DSP and take a look at the the Time Slot bar. No amount of extra DSP cards or RAM is going to help you.

Some things you can do to free up time slots:
1) buy another Protools rig and sync the two together or
2) deactivate some tracks and bounce some plugin heavy tracks down to free up some time slots.
3) deactivate any tracks, auxes and plugins that aren't being used.

Hope that helps.

I had the same problem lately, and have since then discovered that in the system usage windows you have a time slot counter.
*Of course* the manual does not elaborate on such an embarrassing issue (p13 and 376 of the 5.1 reg guide)
I agree this is a severe restriction when doing full blown mixes, and to say the truth I felt very much betrayed of not having been warned about this. This is plainly lying by omission
Had I known this before I would have chosen a different plugin buying strategy.
Since the last incident I bought Channel Strip, that combine gate comp eq in one plugin. This saves valuable time slots. I also avoid keeping unused aux sends or tracks

Hi,

It is common knowledge that TDM has 256 time slots. There is a possibility to run out of
time slots based on how big your session is
and how many PI's you use.

I don't think it a case of lying by omission at all.

For Digi to adress this they will have to release new hardware.
