Default proper settings for this w-clock scenario

Hi,
I am trying the following set-up and am having w-clock problem: no sync anywhere.
Mackie D8b's Apogee clock is master

Mackie w-clock out to Adat Bridge(10 feet)
slave clock in.

Adat Bridge slave clock out to 888/24 (18 inches) slave clock in.

What should the settings be in hardware setup? Adat Brdg is on MixCore A,
888 is on B. AdatBrg is optical in&out to board. 888 has NO digital connections to board.
If Adat is seeing clock from Apogee, should it be set to INTERNAL SYNC?

kinda new at this w-clock thing.
Thanks for any help.

Mark,

The ADAT Bridge doesn't have a word clock input - only a Superclock (256x) input. You might look into making the ADAT Bridge the master clock and using its word clock out to feed your Mackie.

You might also want to look into a dedicated master word clock device like, Aardsync II, Nanosync or Universal Slave Driver.

hey Doug,
Thanks. I was told the Apogee in the
Mackie was "far Superior" to the USD
I have, so I took the USD out of the setup.
Guess I better put it back in.
So, superclock from USD to AdatBrdg then word clock to 888/24 then to Mackie.
Sounds like I shouldn't chain & get a distributor.

Legativity,

You really need to be clocking your system with a proper masterclock. The Aardvark or preferably a Nanosyncs. If you set it up correctly I'm sure you will notice a considerable improvement in audio quality as you will eliminate the jitter you will experience from daisy-chaining the word clock signal through your Mackie, ADAT Bridge, 888 and USD.

If you want to clock off of the Apogee....Then go Word Clock out of the Apogee to Word Clock in on the USD. Then run superclock ( Slave Clock ) out of the USD to the 888, then slave clock out of the 888 in to the ADAT interface. In your session setup dialog, set the clock to Word Clock. Yo must always change the sample rate ( if needed ) on your master clock as well as in the session!!! ( very important!!)

not that familiar with the mackie(clocking wise), but one thing you will have to do is have the adat bridge before the 888 as that is the only way you can set the Pro Tools session set up to optical. Also, I had problems with cable length and ended up keeping all bnc cables under 3 feet.
