Default Importing OMF Files

Dear all

I'm new ProTools user. I have just got a new HD2 accel system running on a G5 Mac. I have until now used Logic 5.5.1 and Cubase SX3 on PC-platform. I have bought the DigiTranslator 2.0, but when I'm importing my exported OMF-files from Cubase (I have not tried with Logic yet) to ProTools, my stereotracks are imported as monotracks. Of course I can bounce my stereotracks, so they will start at 0, and the import them into ProTools seperate as audiofiles, but are there no other ways to do this? Is it impossible for the DigiTranslator to handle stereointerleaved audiotracks? I know, ProTools are working with seperate files for L and R channels, but is there any smart way to split the stereo-interleaved files in the OMF-import process?

Sincerely

Klaus Poulsen

I have not ever tried this because we only get multiple mono tracks from our video guys, but you could try making some stereo tracks in ProTools ahead of time, then when you are on the import screen, set those tracks as the targets for the imported tracks. So if you made a stereo music track called "Music 1", in the import window you would select "Music 1" instead of "New Track".

Just something to try, like I said, I've never had to deal with it

Correct. The OMFI spec does not account for stereo tracks.

after importing the omf create a new stereo track in PT and drag the two mono tracks with grabber tool (in waveform view) into the stereo track in the edit window.
