VCAs & Aux Send in Pre Mode

Is there a way to get a VCA to change volume on an Aux Send that's in PRE mode? I have to create an alternative mix so am copying all my volume automation to an aux send putting it in pre mode yet I have VCA information too I need to copy, can't figure out how?

Can't be done. That's the whole idea of Pre-fade. Now there's nothing saying you can't automate a pre-fader send, or add a post fade send to the same destination(so the VCA WOULD have an effect on it).

Or make a copy of the session and do your changes to that.

Hmm, tricky!!

(1) Make a copy of the session.
(2) On the copy, coalesce the VCAs to their members.
(3) Now use those faders to create your sends (alternative mix).
(4) Close this session and open the original one.
(5) Using Import Session Data, import only the sends data from the copy into the original session, overriding the existing data.

It might take a couple of attempts to make sure you've got this exactly right and there's plenty of room for error, but it's less than 5 minutes work if it all works.
