Default LUFS & Loudness Standard for Stems?

Hey,

I've processed my Full mix for a show at EBU R128 standard - 23LUFS, delivery has passed Tech Checks, so all good.

The Full mix, was actually boosted a bit through my conservative mix.

The stems (particularly the M&E) has not been processed through the loudness correction (iZotope).

Should it be?

Given that loudness is gauged by "Dial Norm", If I leave the M&E stem alone I'm concerned about having it too low since the Full Mix was boosted by the loudness processor (approx +2.5db), and possibly too high if I process something without dialogue to keep it down.

Any thoughts?

If stems peaks are at about -20dBFS it is okay. You only need to "worry" about loudness delivering full mix.

I think it's good practice to have the stems summed up be the same level as your delivered mix, including dynamics etc. Individual stems have no loudness requirement, but summed up it needs to match your fullmix and is sometimes even an actual delivery requirement.

When there are multiple mixes (film and tv) I match them to the original mix (usually the widest dynamics).
