Which video file format to use?
Hi guys... I have an audio post studio and mostly do advertising (TV & Radio commercials) but every once in a while I get a feature film or documentary to mix. I use protools 11 HD native and have a black magic intensity pro to output video. I usually don't worry much about the file format, but there has to be performance improvements depending on the file format I'm sure... or maybe different latency.
Which video file format works best for you guys? do you use any different formats if it is short or long format? Thanks in advance |

Re: Which video file format to use?
Avid DNXHD36. It's bigger, less "transferable" but far superior in performance with the new video engine.
Download MPEG Streamclip from Squared5 and install the Avid Codecs package then convert all your video files to it. Same format for long or short format. C |

Re: Which video file format to use?
+1 on that. DNX36 from Mpeg streamclip works beautifully in PT11.

Re: Which video file format to use?
+1 for any DNxHD flavour, especially DNxHD36. I wrap as MXF, not tried QuickTime, but happy to get away from those and Adobe Media Encoder is great and about 3-5x real-time at encoding them and burning in timecode at the same time.

Re: Which video file format to use?
OK so after reading this thread - and having been using MOV files up to now - I decided to try the MPEG format. I used Streamclip to rip a video recorded 7 years ago from a DVD and save as an MPEG. But when I import that MPEG to PT (PT 10.3.2 with Windows 7) there is no audio track! I've not seen that before.
