Default Loosing Connection with Expansion|HD

About twice a day I see a message saying "Lost connection with the Expansion|HD" and protools crashes. Then it gives me two different error codes -9160 and then -7401. I've used the search function and the anserbase but can't seam to find a solution to this re occuring problem. Has anyone had similar issues and/or solutions to this problem?

i'm seeing this too. seems to happen randomly, sometimes when i am just playing back and not touching anything. restarting pro tools without rebooting works but it is happeneing about twice a day where we used to have zero crashes. anyone have any ideas? actually it may have started happening with cs2, not sure. josh, can you please list your specs?

Pro Tools 7.2cs2
HD5 Accel System
ExpansionHD with PCI-X Host Card
Dual 2.5 Ghz PPC/PCI-X
4.5 GB RAM

Can you post more specific information on your system configuration, OS version, computer model, attached peripherals as well as any troubleshooting you've tried?

Hey Matt... Sorry to hear your having the same problem. I have two identical rigs and it only ever happens on one of them. I'm running:

Pro Tools 7.3.1cs1
HD5 Accel System
ExpansionHD with PCI-X Host Card
Dual 2.0 Ghz PPC/PCI-X
OS 10.4.8
2 gig of ram

The only troubleshooting I've done is run digitest and all the cards checkout ok....

hi...

i was told that 7.3.1 was a MUCH IMPROVED situation over 7.2 for commuincation errors. so get that if you don't have it already. and make sure you get the r2 updater as well.

the biggest thing for me that solved a lot of my issues was cleaning out the start-up folder. the only things that should be in there are the "Digi loader" and "PACE support" folders.

also, a 512 PB engine seems best too.

i have been error and trouble-free with my chassis for over a month now.

7.3.1cs1
PT HD|3 ACELL
MAC G5 2.5
6.5 g ram
10.4.8

thanks tom, i'll take it under advisement. i'm holding off on 7.3.1 for now though (esp. now that i hear the cedar isn't working).

DigiTechSupport - i'm running 10.4.8 with Sync IO and a 192 IO. i've recently trashed prefs but the problem happens quite sporadically so it is hard to say whether that is doing anything. i'll take a look at this start up folder thing.

I just checked my StarupItems folder and all I have is the two items Tom mentioned. I was hoping I had some junk in that folder... but no luck....

I just encountered this for the first time:

Mac Pro, 4 gigs RAM, OS X 10.4.8, Expansion/HD, Pro Tools 7.3.1cs1 (not r2), No Sync device, 4 750GB internal SATA drives.

I had used CoreAudio driver and switched back to Built-in in the system sound prefs - started Pro Tools and was editing a 88.2kHz/24 bit session. The session is on a 750GB internal SATA drive. I received the spinning beach ball while the session auto-saved and then it lost communication with the chassis and gave the exact error numbers reported above.

I rebooted the system and so far it is working okay with the same session.

Is the r2 build okay to install with cs1? The readme only mentions a crash while chasing LTC....?
