Default Editting between ticks

I'm using tick-based editting because it's easier to go back and do a section if i screw up. But what if i get an almost perfect take, and i just want to edit something between the ticks. Can this be done, and if so, how? Thanks so much!

Are you editing in grid mode? Is that what you mean?

I agree that what you describe is a tad confusing. Grid mode is where the cursor snaps to the grid(set to whatever value you want, such as quarter notes or eight notes). It would be worth it to visit youtube and look at some tutorial videos on the 4 modes(GRID, SLIP, SPOT and SHUFFLE). You need to know how these work and when to use each(GRID and SLIP are the 2 most often used), GRID snaps to the lines and SLIP allows you to click/move anywhere. Ticks is a term that Pro Tools uses for something else entirely(you want to learn that too, but get this part down first)
