Pro Tools 9 - MXF video files
How does one get Pro Tools 9 to import MXF video? Does this require the CPT2? According to the Avid page http://www.avid.com/US/products/fami...-Tools/compare Pro Tools 9 has MXF file exchange, but when I tried to import MXF video (which was created in a PT HD system) Pro Tools 9 told me I needed to have the Avid Video engine installed. Can anyone shed light on this?

Re: Pro Tools 9 - MXF video files
This might be a better post for the Post forum, but as far as I know, MXF files are created in AVID sessions to go along with the video files.
When you install PT, there is an option to install the AVID Video Engine, when you install the app, plugins, etc.

Re: Pro Tools 9 - MXF video files
Avid MXf files require a MOJO and the avid video engine to be installed

Re: Pro Tools 9 - MXF video files
Thanks for the replies
When I installed PT9, the only option available was install PT 9. Mind you, I didn't download the full installer, only the updater. Is there a separate download on the Avid site for the Video Engine? I have a Mojo available, so it's not an issue. |

Re: Pro Tools 9 - MXF video files
Calibrate Software's plugin for Quicktime - Calibrated {Q} MXF Import for OSX/Windows will allow you to play MXF files without having AVID video hardware, MOJO etc.
The latest version will even play the particularly unique MXF files created on the AVID/Digidesign V10 interface for ProTools HD. Here's a link to their website http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/ |

Re: Pro Tools 9 - MXF video files
Just in case anyone is interested... after much downloading, I got to the bottom of this - you need the full PT9 install (not the upgrade) to install the Avid Video Engine, and a Mojo to run it... which was kinda annoying, as the Video Engine file is only 95MB, but the full install is 5.5GB. (Hey Avid, maybe make that Video Engine file available STANDALONE on the website? Just saying.) But - and here's the kicker - when I tried to import PAL video MXF files (made by recording straight into PTHD via Mojo) into a PAL PT9 session, it wouldn't let me. The only way to do it was: start a new session, import the video files, then import the original session that I wanted to work in. Awk-ward...
Finally got the picture to play on my Samsung HDTV via the Mojo, but the frames were extremely jumpy and not smooth. They were in sync though! I figured it must be that you need a video reference for the Mojo to play smoothly, clocked to PT hardware. So after all that, I decided that....I'll convert my MXF files to Quicktime |
