Default Cheapest Backup Solution?

Hi All,

Finally I think I have found myself a really cool and portable ackup solution with up to 90GB of Data!!! Yes up to 90GB... and best of all - its affordable!

This may be old news to you guys - but its new to me:

Check out: www.iomega.com --> REV

Direct Product Link

I think its about USD 350 for this baby!

What do you guys use for backup or transport - except for External Harddrives...?

Greetings from damn cold switzerland,
Mark

IOMEGA are still trying to justify their continued existence. You'd do better buying standard drives and caddies, and mounting them in a Firewire box, a la the 'Firedock' which used to be plugged here a lot.

I wouldn't touch IOMEGA stuff; they screwed people with Zip drives (serious drive problems, lots of lost data), and Jazz drives (expensive media, lost data, a serious flawed idea of using unsealed flying head drives). Way, way back, Iomega were at least revolutionary with their Bernoulli drives; but it's just taking the company a long time to die off.

Best price per gig is still spare hard discs with data CD's coming in second (when purchased in bulk)...follow that with data DAT backup.

FYI, I have had awful experiences with Iomega products.

I ended up transferring everything I had from Iomega drives to DVDs, after about three Iomega drive deaths. Plus their media is comparatively expensive.

Exactly.

I'd go for hard disks and DVD-R.

ditto. Hard drives and multiple DVD copies. A good way to back up to an external hard drive is to put a drive in an old PC and network it - you're bound to have other uses for the second PC, like use it for going on the net and keep your important work at a remove.

BTW London's having the warmest winter I can remember. Plenty of trees still haven't shed their leaves, and some of those that have are having a go at pretending it's spring and are showing signs of budding! Meanwhile the birds seem unusually active...

English birds can be quite fetching, at least through their teenage years.

Hmm...

The little foxes are at it too...

It's a shame really, cos though from an evolutionary standpoint it's a good idea to have as many offspring as poss in a year, the fact is none of any young born in the next few weeks will survive a genuine winter. It's a tough life out there living in a hole in the ground, or whatever.

i just got a good deal on dvds

Fuji 50 pack 8x dvds 29.99 - 20.00 rebate
i had to pay the tax on the 30 so it came to 11 something per bundle
which was like 24 cents per dvd while cds i am paying like 22 cents per cd

so i picked up like 5 bundles of dvds, it was during thanksgiving weekend when i bought them

Do bear in mind that no-one yet knows what the true long-term stability of DVD media is.
