Default Inside Scoop on Apple Emagic Takeover!!!

Ok so finally we get to know what really happened. Supposedly Emagic was not Apples first choice when they went looking for an audio/midi solution. So who was you ask? Our very own Digidesign (who happens to be located very close to infinite loop). Steve Jobs personally met with Dave Lebolt with the offer of a sizeable amount of cash as well as his personal vision of the future of audio and OS X. After hearing Jobs' gospel about how bright a future they would have being under Apples tent Dave simpy refused straight out and tried to control is laughter. Steve pointed out that if they were not interested in being purchased that Apple would simply just aquire another Audio solution and that Digi would then have to compete with Apple and all its resources. So Dave Lebolt simply said "Bring it," Steve stood there with a fierce look, took a a hoochie mama stance, shook his head from side to side and said "it's already been Buurrout!" and stormed out the door...

Wouldn't Steve Jobs have to have been meeting with someone at Avid since they own Digidesign?

etherize -- you have me going there until the end. Steve didn't storm out, he got on his segway and gracefully rolled away.

If this is true, then it wasn't that smart of a move on Digi's part, was it. Apple could make it very difficult for Digi, if they wanted, as Digi relies heavily on Apple as it's interface. All they would have to do is stop making multi-slot CPU's, and develop some kind of proprietary audio interface system, and Digi users are screwed.

Then Apple has the last laugh.

Apple can't get directly involved in music due to a lawsuit from way back when with Apple Records. Sosumi.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">They can do whatever they want. They can call it iRecords if they want. They just can't call it APPLE RECORDS. Because that was owned by the Beatles.

...and getting involved in "music" and getting involved in "music technology" are obviously two very different things.

I really doubt Apple would be SO misguided as to technologically shut-out Avid/Digi, or any other third-party manufacturer/developer. First, they might end-up in some anti-trust hot water, which at the very least would cost them $$$. And secondly, I don't think it's really possible because as long as Apple is encouraging third-party developers of software (which they MUST do to be competitive with "wintel"), and supporting peripherals that have become the de facto standard, Avid/Digi will continue developing hardware & software. But releasing a competitive product is just fine... it'll hopefully make Digi a better product in the end. Anyway, Apple has been talking for years about how the real future of tech is in software.

I wonder if this guy is the "icantbeleiveit" character (apparently a fan of native DAW)... "the sky is falling!!!"
