Inserts as DOs?
Sadly I have here a simple mixer with no DirectOuts.
I don't need the mixer function as the purpose of it is a preamp with phantom for mics. I'd like to record more than 2channels into the 001. How much signal loss do I get when patching Inserts (so I get the post-amped signal but it won't return to the console)? Thanks...

Re: Inserts as DOs?
I also have a board without direct outs and i've been using the inserts and getting decent results. as much as i can tell, the insert just sends the signal dry to wherever you route it, no eq from the board, etc. so, it should still have plenty of signal.

Re: Inserts as DOs?
Typically console insert sends, whether TRs or separate send/return, are directly after the preamp/preeq and fader +4 line level signals, ideal for routing to Protools or any recording device.
Use your console for monitoring, and this leaves the eq section availailable to eq any post eq sends for headhone mixes without affecting the signal to Protools. FWIW I never eq anything when recording, but vary mic/preamp, position, tunings, acoustic environment, etc., to achieve the sound I am looking for. Hope this is helpful. |

Re: Inserts as DOs?
If hes referring to the MX2004A(wehich a lot of people have, including I) then it is pre EQ.

Re: Inserts as DOs?
If you connect the 1/4" send and return of an insert cable to a Y cable that is 2-1/4" female and 1- 1/4" male you will end up with an "insert tap".
You can plug the trs end into the insert point and the other end into the Digi and still have signal through the channel. cheers Roly |

Re: Inserts as DOs?
I usually only Compress the signal before PT.
But still DirectOuts are pretty much the same thing just without this horrible routing and mess. but since I have this board here I have no choice .

Re: Inserts as DOs?
I use a behringer mixer w/out direct outs and it works fine. I can still use the gain to control the amount of signal going to the inserts, so it's really the same thing pretty much..
