PTLE / Logic Pro 7.2 Interfaces for MacBook Pro
I need some options for best interfaces for using both PTLE and the new Logic Pro 7.2. Thinking of going with the 001 exchange program for a 002r but wasn't sure of the 002r capability with Logic Pro 7.2. I'll be tracking through a Cranesong HEDD 192 SPDIF into this interface and need at least 24/ 96k capability which seems standard on these interfaces these days. Will be using both programs on a MacBook Pro.
Anyone else using Logic Pro 7.2 at this time and any thoughts? A few of my friends are sold on the new 7.2 release. Thanks, Allen |

Re: PTLE / Logic Pro 7.2 Interfaces for MacBook P
Allen - I don't quite get the question. For PTLE interfaces, your choices are obvious. For Logic, your choices are wide open. You could run the HEDD into something like a PreSonus Firebox for Logic, and not deal with any peculiarities of Digidesign's Core Audio mis-implementation.

Re: PTLE / Logic Pro 7.2 Interfaces for MacBook Pro
From what I've been reading on the DUC the 7.1.1 CoreAudio driver is pretty much non-functional, so I'd look at a different interface for Logic.

Re: PTLE / Logic Pro 7.2 Interfaces for MacBook P
I had a FW410, it wasn't great. I also prefer interfaces which use the Mac's builtin driver for 'class compliant' audio devices. That way, you don't wait for the interface vendor to release drivers if something changes in an OS upgrade.
For small interfaces - I'd suggest Presonus Firebox, Firepod, or Focusrite Saffire. I have the Saffire - sounds good, very stable.

Re: PTLE / Logic Pro 7.2 Interfaces for MacBook P
Just out of interest, though it's probably not suitable for your purposes, does anyone know the specs of the built in spdif i/o on the macbook?
apple doesn't say much about it's capabililties on their site. i wonder what the latency would be like too... |

Re: PTLE / Logic Pro 7.2 Interfaces for MacBook P
The Macbook S/PDIF port is good for stereo up to 96k, 24-bit. I'm sure the latency is quite low. With appropriate optical adapter, the HEDD would probably work well there.

Re: PTLE / Logic Pro 7.2 Interfaces for MacBook P
It also appears that the Firewire 1814 interface will work fully with PTLE M-Powered 7.0 and Logic Pro 7.2. Anyone using this interface? Now I just need an exchange program for the 001 to 1814. lol

Re: PTLE / Logic Pro 7.2 Interfaces for MacBook P
I use the FW1814 on a PPC Dual G5 with Logic 7.1 and Digital Performer 4.6.1 and love it (I bought it specifically for this purpose b/c my Mbox with Digi's CA was horrid). The M-Audio CA drivers are much much better than Digi's - however I can't speak for the Intel version since I'm still PPC, but every version has been solid thus far, so I'd hope that continues with the Intels as well.
