Default Digi 002 vs Command 8

Are the units the same when it comes to control? I know the 002 has all the more connections (Rack and control in 1), but does it work like the command 8 in the control dept? Any pros and cons? Thanks in advance!

As far as the control goes, they're virtually identical.

These seem to be the primary advantages to each setup:
Command|8 + 002r will give you an extra set of midi ports.
002 will give you standalone mixer functionality.

Thanks for such a quick response Chris. Yea, I was a bit confused when reading over the specs deciding on my upgrade choice from the 001. It says standalone mixer for the 002, yet standalone midi controller for the command 8. The button layouts are a bit diff as well. The pics are not big enought to read the small print on the equipment. The more info the better, get at me everyone!

Thanks,
Trep

Command 8 works on HD as well so if you have use an 002R and want to upgrade to HD, you still get to use the Command 8 for midi, monitoring and controls. With 002 you're stuck.

$command8 + $002R = $002

The Command|8 also has a MUCH BETTER scribble strip. Channels get 6 characters instead of 4 (doesn't sound like much but makes a BIG difference) and it has two rows so you get more info when in insert mode. Just check out any pictures you can find and look at the scribble strip at the top and you will see what I mean. The command|8 will also work with other audio apps too. (and it looks a tad bit more elegant - for what that is worth).
002 would probably be a better choice if you needed a control surface AND portability though because of it's all-in-one design.
My $.02
