Default Help: Pro tools only outputs static

So I originally had protools le installed on my xp2500+ custom built computer with 512mb ram, 2 40gig hard drives and an asus A7V8X . Things were working ok, although I was getting the H/W buffer error a ton. Then my whole system crashed and I had to reformat my computer. Now when I try running pro tools, nothing shows up when trying to record. Also, when I play back the sample songs I get a very static version with almost no low end. As the sample song continues the static increases until it takes over. An I still get that H/W error all the time? Any thoughts? I know my computer is powerful enough that i shouldn't be having these issues. Any help would be much appreciated
